Artist Bio:

Marie G. Romero (1927-2007) was the daughter of Joe and Persingula Gachupin. She was a member of the corn clan and born into the Jemez Pueblo in 1927. She was inspired to continue the family tradition of pottery making by her grandparents at the age of 8. She made storytellers and all shapes of pottery. She gathered her own clay on a sacred area within the Jemez Pueblo. She hand coiled, painted, and fired outdoors.

Marie is related to the following artists: Laura Gachupin, Maxine Toya (daughters), Dominique Toya, Camilla Toya, Gordan Foley, Benina Foley (grandchildren), Ponca Fragua, Bertha Gachupin (nieces), and Leonora G. Fragua (sister).
