Anderson Jamie Peynetsa is
the son of Anderson Peynetsa and Avelia Peynetsa. Among his aunts
are Priscilla Peynetsa and Agnes Peynetsa, also well-known Zuni
potters. Born in 1997, Anderson is an up and coming young potter.
He's been making pots since he was 11 years old, and says his
inspiration to make pottery comes from watching his father making
pottery as he grew up.
He participated in his first
show in 2008, the SWAIA Santa Fe Indian Market, and went home
with a 1st Place ribbon in the Junior Pottery Division.
Jamie's favorite shapes are
either contemporary (he sometimes makes duck pots) or traditional
Hawikuh-revival styles. His favorite designs are a mix of modern
fine line and traditional Zuni designs.
He works with his mother on
much of his pottery and she makes the pieces and he paints the
designs.
Avelia Peynetsa, born in 1964,
is the great-granddaughter of Catalina Zunie; wife of Anderson
Peynetsa; mother of Ashley Peynetsa. Avelia learned pottery making
from Jennie Laate. Avelia Peynetsa also often collaborates with
her husband Anderson Peynetsa and signs her pottery with AA Peynetsa.
