Dorothy Ami

Four Feathers

5" H x 7" D

Dorothy Ami is one of the premier young Hopi potters. Her work is innovative in design, shape and clay colorations. Her fine line designs are carefully drawn and beautifully painted using a single strand of yucca and all natural pigments.

Dorothy’s work is clean and crisp. This is no surprise when one realizes that the award winning and extremely talented Hopi potter, Mark Tahbo, has been her mentor and teacher for several years.

Dorothy believes in producing fewer pieces, but ones of the highest quality and workmanship. She has been able to capture the deep, rich colorations Mark is able to achieve in his firings. However, she has certainly found her own style in terms of form and design.

She was recently identified by Southwest Art Magazine as an artist to watch. Dorothy is certainly one of the "up-and-coming" potters working at Hopi today.
